Royal Heights Road was reopened late Wednesday morning after a gas leak brought traffic to a halt for about two hours.

According to the Belleville Fire Department, Ameren workers pinpointed the source of the underground leak and began to make repairs.

The road was closed around 9 a.m. between Memorial Drive and South Park Drive. The nearby West Junior High and Abraham Lincoln Elementary schools kept students inside during the leak.
