All three people in a car that crashed on Illinois 163 just north of Millstadt on Tuesday night were transported to a hospital.
Emergency radio transmissions indicated the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. A second ambulance was dispatched three minutes later and a third headed to the scene around 8:50 p.m.
It appeared at the scene that a red sedan was traveling northbound on Illinois 163 when it somehow left the road to the east, struck the ditch and came to rest on the other side of the ditch near a utility pole. No other vehicles were involved.
It wasn’t clear what caused the car to leave the road and the extent of the injuries to the occupants wasn’t known. Police were not available to comment on whether the driver would be cited.
Emergency crews closed the northbound lane of the highway and guided both northbound and southbound traffic through the southbound lane.
