East St. Louis quarterback hospitalized after car crash
The quarterback on East St. Louis Senior High School’s football team suffered serious injuries Tuesday evening in a car crash.
Reyondus Estes remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon. A report on the nature of his injuries was not immediately available.
School leaders said they were aware of the accident. District 189 Superintendent Arthur Culver said he was “deeply saddened” to hear news that Estes, a junior, was hurt in a car accident.
“I’m praying that he has a full recovery. My deep, heartfelt condolences go out to him, his mom, and all of his family and friends,” Culver said.
Culver added: “I’m asking everyone who believes in prayer to pray for him. We must remember that prayer is the oil that takes the friction out of life.”
The Flyers were viewed as a powerhouse team early in the season, but they now hold a 3-5 record and no hope of making the playoffs. Three of their losses were forfeitures, due to the school district’s teachers being on strike.
