A Granite City man died Saturday morning after he was struck by a vehicle in St. Louis while walking along Interstate 70, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Dillion Dean, 23, was struck about 1:35 a.m. while walking west on the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Tucker Boulevard.
Dean, who was a sales engineer for Jarrel Contractors, had graduated in May from the University of Missouri, according to a gofundme online fundraising site.
According to police, a chain reaction of accidents occurred after Dean was struck.
Police said, after the first vehicle left the scene, a second vehicle ran over Dean as he was lying in the road. The driver of the second vehicle, a 30-year-old woman, stopped after hitting Dean. Her vehicle was rear-ended, reports say. The woman's car then hit another vehicle
The driver of a fifth vehicle pulled over to try to help the pedestrian. That vehicle was then side-swiped by a passing vehicle that also left the scene, police say.
Schron Jackson, a public information officer for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, said Wednesday the case was still under investigation.
