Cahokia man gets 25 years for murder

A Cahokia man charged with the murder of another man in 2013 pleaded guilty Wednesday and received a 25-year prison sentence.

Circuit Judge Zina Cruse handed the sentence to 29-year-old John L. “Moo Cow” Harris Jr.

Harris was convicted of murdering 24-year-old Sanchez Garner. The charges said Harris “without lawful justification and with the intent to kill or do great bodily harm, injured Sanchez in the back with with a dangerous weapon.”

The case was investigated by the Cahokia Police Department and was prosecuted by St. Clair County Assistant State’s Attorney Deborah J. Phillips.
