Scott Air Force Base, located outside Mascoutah, is getting a new visitor’s quarters whose features will rival those of a first-class business hotel.

The Korte Company, based in St. Louis, was awarded a construction contract for a six-story, 284-room visitor’s quarters at Scott.

When completed in the fall of 2017, the 170,000-square-foot building’s rooms will include many of the same amenities as a hotel room, including a bed, desk, closet, as well as a microwave and refrigerator. Business suites, located on the upper floors, will be larger and have additional square footage for an in-room washer and dryer.

Plans for the new facility include a fitness area, conference rooms, retail shops, business center, administrative offices, an outdoor patio and an on-site laundry.

The building is also designed to be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certified Silver. LEED is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.
