Organizers of a local Hope for Heroes group are asking metro-east residents to clean out their closets and attics for a good cause.
Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. the Hope for Heroes program will conduct a collection drive with the assistance of Fairview Heights Illinois SAVERS store to raise funds to increase community support of local deployed troops overseas and local wounded warriors, veterans and their families.
Items being collected include clothing, shoes, accessories, books, linens and small household items. The collection drive will be held at the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Office lot located at 10885 Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights.
Signed Christmas cards will also be collected to send to area deployed military members.

There will be drawing during the event for those who drop off items which include a $100 Walmart gift certificate, dinner for six and a bottle of wine from the Illinois Center for Autism.
