Early morning fire destroys metro-east home

Firefighters from at least three departments responded to an early Thursday morning blaze in the metro-east.

According to fire department reports, the fire started in a single family home in the 1600 block of 49th Street in Washington Park.

The fire was initially reported at about 5:45 a.m. Firefighters from Washington Park, State Park and Camp Jackson fire departments responded to the scene.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started or if anyone was injured by the flames and smoke.
