Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs and his staff will be in East St. Louis Tuesday to try to reunite rightful owners and their unclaimed property.
The Treasurer’s I-Cash program regularly hands over property the office has held for safe keeping back to those who legally own it. A statement from Frerichs’ office said up to 148,000 people and businesses in St. Clair County have unclaimed cash or property being safeguarded by the state.
“Jewelry, coins and unpaid life insurance policies are common examples of items that we hold for safe keeping as we try to locate the proper owners,” Frerichs said. “These items do not belong to the state and should be returned to their rightful owners.”
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at East St. Louis City Hall, 301 River Park Drive. The treasurer’s office does not charge any fees to assist property owners in reclaiming their property.
