Heavy rain blamed in ambulance crash

An O’Fallon EMS ambulance transporting a 16-year-old patient to a St. Louis hospital lost control and crashed Tuesday evening, Illinois State Police said.

ISP Trooper Calvin Dye Jr. said troopers responded at 10:57 p.m. to Interstate 64 near the Interstate 255 interchange. He said the ambulance was westbound near mile marker 7 when it lost control and left the roadway, striking the median cables on the left.

The patient and both paramedics on board the ambulance all were transported to area hospitals.

Dye said weather may have been a factor in the crash, because it was raining heavily at the time.
