Sun Thursday, freezing temperatures this weekend

Nice weather is expected to close out the work week in the metro-east.

But conditions will take an unpleasant turn Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The high Thursday is expected to reach 52 under sunny skies. Winds will gust at up to 21 mph.

It will be mostly clear Thursday night with a low of 31,

Skies will be partly sunny during the day Friday with a high of 55, which is slightly warmer than the average peak temperature for this time of year in the St. Louis metropolitan area, 53.

But a cold front will hit the area Friday evening, bringing a 40 percent chance of rain and much cooler temperatures to the area. The low Friday night will drop to 37.

On Saturday, the high will reach only 41 with a 30 percent chance of rain before noon. Winds will gust at up to 22 mph.

The low will drop to 21 Saturday night under mostly clear skies.

Skies will be mostly sunny Sunday but the high will reach only 38. The low Sunday night will be 25 under mostly clear skies.
