Metro-east Boy Scouts on Saturday will collect donated items as part of the annual Scouting for Food drive.
Individuals who received Scouting for Food bags last weekend are asked to donate non-perishable canned or boxed foods in the bags and place them on their front porches for Scouts to pick up beginning at 9 a.m.
Last year, Scouts collected 393,210 pounds of food for soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in southwest Illinois.
Items needed include: canned meats/fish, soups, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned potatoes, canned chili, canned beans, canned beef stew and peanut butter in plastic jars. The Scouts cannot accept frozen items, glass containers, outdated items or opened items.
