▪ Belleville West football coach Cameron Pettus was called a hero by police in Minnesota. On a trip to see a pair of his former athletes play college football, he helped save the life of a man who twice went into cardiac arrest.

▪ More than 2,000 U.S. Steel employees found out this week that they’ll soon be without their jobs. The Granite City steel mill will be idled because of a lack of demand for its products.

▪ A 22-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a pair of robberies of Dollar General stores in Belleville. The crimes took place Friday in stores in Wade Square and on Carlyle Avenue.
