Sons of the American Revolution to honor residents flying the flag

The Sons of the American Revolution will hold an awards ceremony Thursday for honorees who fly the American flag above their homes.

The ceremony honors residents from southern Madison County townships who regularly fly the American flag. The ceremony has taken place for the last 20 years, alternating between northern townships in even-numbered years and southern townships in odd-numbered years.

This year’s township award recipients include: Larry Allen of Marine; Edward and Jennifer Avery of Jarvis; Philip and Linda Bailey of Edwardsville; John and Ellen Daniels of Pin Oak; Nic Frey of Helvetia; David and Diane Heim of Saline; Michael Johnson of Chouteau; Phyllis Laster of Collinsville; Edward and Lois Shafer of St. Jacob; Jim and Janet Simpson of Nameoki; and Richard and Geraldine Werths of Granite City.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Madison County Courthouse in Edwardsville.
