IDOT to close lanes on I-55/64, plans pavement work

The Illinois Department of Transportation has plans to close two lanes Friday along westbound Interstate 55/64 to carry out pavement repairs, the agency said.

Weather permitting, the work is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The closure of the two right lanes is set to begin near Illinois Route 203 at Exit 4 along I-55, stretch past where I-64 merges with I-55, and end east of 4th Street in East St. Louis, IDOT said.

Only one westbound lane will be open near and past the merge, IDOT said.

Workers plan to keep the Exchange Avenue and Interstate 70 exits open during Friday’s project.

IDOT plans to perform “essential pavement repairs in advance of the upcoming winter,” the agency said.
