Edwardsville dry cleaners closes its doors after four decades

Wayne’s Professional Dry Cleaning in Edwardsville has closed after more than 40 years in business.

The dry cleaners at 511 N. Main St. opened its doors in town in the early 1970s and closed about two weeks ago.

Last Ponderosa leaves metro-east

The area’s only Ponderosa Steakhouse has gone out of business.

The restaurant at 5 Eastport Plaza Drive in Collinsville closed its doors earlier this week. It was the steakhouse chain’s last standing eatery in the metro-east.

The Ponderosa in Glen Carbon went out of business in February 2010. Another in Fairview Heights closed in February 2001.

According to the restaurant’s Web site, Ponderosa’s only remaining St. Louis-area location is across the river in Arnold, Mo.

Another Circle K on the way

Circle K is building a new gas station and convenience store in Maryville at the intersection of Illinois 159 and Illinois 162. A pawn shop and adjacent house and shed are being demolished to clear space for the new development. Circle K has recently opened a number of locations throughout the metro-east after having purchased two Belleville properties from QuikTrip.

Three years ago, Belleville-based Dickerson Petroleum sold its gas stations to Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. in Laval, Quebec, in a deal that included 25 gas stations in Belleville, Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, Shiloh, Caseyville, Millstadt, Cottage Hills, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Troy, Highland and Waterloo. Each are now affiliated with Circle K.

Plastic surgeon moving practice

Maryville plastic surgeon is building a new medical center in town. Dr. Ryan Diederich has operated his practice, MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, at Anderson Hospital for the past four years. He anticipates moving to a new locale currently under construction along Illinois 159 by February.

And finally, professional engineering, land surveying and construction management company Juneau Associates Inc. PC has won the Quality Concrete Award from the Concrete Council and American Steel Fabrication. The Granite City-based company was recognized for its recent work on the Timberlake Manor Parkway in Chesterfield, Mo. Juneau Associates designed and prepared plans and specifications to replace a bridge near the Townes Thousand Oak Subdivision without closure.
