Morrison Road Connector in Granite City to open Monday

A new road meant to address safety concerns and connect Morrison Road to Breckenridge Road in Granite City is set to open Monday.

The Morrison Road Connector links Morrison Road to Breckenridge Road to address safety concerns of area residents. Morrison Road is one of two ways some Pontoon Beach residents are able to access area subdivisions.

When Morrison Road was under construction during Union Pacific Railroad improvements, residents were left with only one way to access their subdivisions. The connector roadway project started in July 2014 and was completed this month.

"This project was important to Granite City so not to isolate the residents with the closing of the railroad crossing at Morrison Road,” Granite City Mayor Ed Hagnauer said. “Its completion symbolizes a collaborative funding effort amongst all the taxing bodies.”
