Warmer temperatures will end later this week

Cloudy skies will gradually clear across the metro-east Tuesday.

The high will reach 54 with winds of 5-10 mph from the southeast, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain near midnight. The low will be 45.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers again Wednesday with the most likely time for wet weather coming before noon. Skies will be mostly sunny later in the day with a high of 58.

That’s 16 degrees warmer than the average high temperature for the middle of December in the St. Louis metropolitan area, 42.

Wednesday night, skies will be mostly clear with a low of 33.

Temperatures will drop to close to normal for the first time in two weeks Thursday, topping out at 43 under mostly sunny skies.

Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 27.
