Don’t Miss This: Madison County man drops off his 4-year-old daughter, drives into train

▪ A Glen Carbon man is suspected of dropping his 4-year-old daughter off by the side of the road in a central Illinois town just before intentionally driving his car onto railroad tracks and into the path of an oncoming freight train.

Charles I. Wood, 36, was killed instantly, according to the Logan County Coroner. His daughter was comforted by strangers after witnessing the event.

▪ Seven children narrowly escape a house fire in Highland Tuesday afternoon.

Two of the children were in intensive care after escaping the flames. But authorities said none of the kids had life-threatening issues. Meanwhile, investigators were trying to determine what started the blaze.

▪ The controversy continues involving a trio of St. Clair County judges who filed retirement papers in order to avoid running for retention in the upcoming election - only to file to run to regain their offices.

The move is designed to more easily allow the judges to regain their seats. But an opponent, Belleville City Clerk Dallas Cook, said he thinks the move is unconstitutional.
