Car crash causes power outage in Mascoutah

Part of Mascoutah was darkened Wednesday evening after a driver struck a utility pole on Sixth Street.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Mascoutah police said the 32-year-old female driver was northbound on Sixth Street in a 2012 Dodge Durango when she suffered a medical problem, causing the SUV to leave the roadway and strike the pole near Green Street.

The woman wasn’t hurt, police said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Parts of Mascoutah were briefly without power, but Ameren Illinois crews made quick work of their repairs and the lights came back on shortly before 6:30 p.m.
