Warm weather Friday, plunging temperatures and snow for weekend

Plunging temperatures and snow are in the forecast for the weekend across the metro-east.

The high will be 53 Friday, 16 degrees warmer than the average high of 37 for Jan. 8 in the St. Louis metropolitan area. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of rain.

The chance or rain remains at 30 percent Friday night when the low will be 39, 18 degrees warmer than the average low for the date.

Things will change dramatically Saturday when the high will match the previous day’s low, 39. There is a 90 percent chance of rain with occasional showers until about 4 p.m. when the temperature drops to the point that rain will start to turn to snow.

Saturday night, the low will plunge to 16 with a 90 percent chance of snow and sleet before 7 p.m. and all snow after that. About 2 inches of accumulation is expected. Winds will blow at about 33 mph.

Sunday will be blustery with a high of 22 and winds that will blow at up to 29 mph.

The low will drop to 9 Sunday night under mostly clear skies.
