Don’t Miss This: The metro-east’s ties to viral murder documentary

Don’t miss these top stories Friday on BND.com:

▪ A retired metro-east law enforcement official played a role in a Netflix murder trial documentary that’s gone viral.

Steven Avery is the subject of “Making a Murderer,” a documentary about the 18 years he spent behind bars for a rape evidence later proved he didn’t commit, only to be charged with murder three years later.

▪ A Collinsville High School student is in trouble after bringing a gun to school.

According to police reports, the student had an unloaded handgun in his backpack. Police were warned just before noon that the student had the weapon. An officer pulled the student from class and found the gun.

▪ Belleville police came up empty Thursday in a manhunt for the suspect in a burglary who attacked the female resident of his targeted home when she walked in on the crime.

The attack happened just before noon in the 500 block of 37th Street. The victim suffered cuts and scrapes but no life-threatening injuries.

Officers are pursuing several leads.
