Firefighters collecting donations for East St. Louis fire victims

Members of East St. Louis Firefighters International Association of Firefighters Local 23 will be out on street corners raising money to help with funeral expenses for the three victims who lost their lives in the deadly fire at 2015 N. 43rd St. on Sunday.

Brian Gregory, a member of Union Local 23 said, “Firefighters will be standing at various locations throughout East St. Louis today (Friday) through Jan. 16.”

All of the proceeds collected will go toward helping the victims, he said.

The three victims who were killed in the fire were 27-year-old Kendra Williams, 4-year-old Jayden Harris and a 32-year-old Chantez Reynolds. The family has said they do not have insurance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the East St. Louis Fire Department and the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office.
