Woman crashes car with child inside, charged with aggravated DUI in Caseyville

A 24-year-old Hazelwood, Missouri woman is free on $30,000 bond after she was charged with aggravated DUI after a single vehicle crash in Caseyville, police said.

About 3:20 a.m. Thursday police responded to the 2400 block of Old Country Inn Drive after the vehicle Kristina N. Poteet was driving left the roadway and crashed into a rock embankment, police said. The vehicle continued through the landscaping of several businesses and stopped in the intersection of State Route 157 and Tucker Drive.

According to police, Poteet was highly intoxicated and had a suspended Illinois driving privileges and an active warrant due to a prior DUI arrest. The driver’s 18-month-old child was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Children and Family Services, police said. Neither the child nor the suspect was injured during the crash.

On Friday, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Poteet with aggravated diving under the influence of alcohol, class 4 felony, driving while license suspended, class A misdemeanor, and endangering the life of a child, class A misdemeanor.
