Frigid weather Monday, snow Tuesday

A hazardous weather advisory that includes the metro-east has been issued by the National Weather Service.

It warns of bitterly cold temperatures Monday and the possibility of snow later in the week.

On Monday the high will reach only 18. That’s 19 degrees cooler than the average high for Jan. 18 in the St. Louis metropolitan area, 37.

Monday night, the low will drop to 13. Northwest winds will force the wind chill factor to 15-20 degrees below zero.

Snow is likely Tuesday when the high will be 26. The mostly likely time for flakes to fall is the afternoon when there is a 60 percent chance.

The likelihood of snow will increase to 80 percent Tuesday night when the low is expected to be 24. A total of 2-4 inches of accumulation is possible.

The possibility of snow continues Wednesday morning with a 30 percent chance before noon. The high will be 34.

It will be mostly cloudy Wednesday night with a low of 24.
