Don’t Miss This: Cahokia teen gets wish of a shopping spree

▪ A Cahokia teen suffering from kidney disease got a chance to forget about her troubles for a while from Make a Wish Illinois.

Ashley Walker, 14, was awarded a $2,250 shopping spree at St. Clair Square.

The teen’s family said she is on the kidney transplant list. But, while she waits, the trip to the mall in a limo made a big impact in lifting her spirits.

▪ Health leaders say it was the flu that claimed the life of a Clinton County resident.

Kyle Norrenberns, 28, died Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Norrenberns went to the hospital early Thursday and was tested for the virus. He was sent home and told to see his doctor on Friday. But he was rushed back to the hospital later Thursday when his condition worsened.

Norrenberns’ father said his lungs filled with fluid and he suffered cardiac arrest.

▪ An Althoff Catholic High School graduate is a renowned polar bear expert at the St. Louis Zoo.

Lisa Lidgus, who grew up in Fairmont City, received the zoo’s Hermann Foundation Outstanding Employee Award for 2015.
