Car slams into building at West Main, Illinois 157

Traffic was tied up early Monday at the intersection of Illinois 157 and West Main Street, between Belleville and East St. Louis, after a car crashed into a building.

The accident happened at about 3:30 a.m. on the West Main Street side of Illinois 157, according to police reports.

A sedan could be seen with its front end driven through the front window of a one-story office at in the 10600 block of West Main Street. A power pole was down across the trunk of the car and an Ameren Illinois crane was attempting to lift the pole off the vehicle at about 7:30 a.m.

There was no immediate word about what caused the crash.
