Alorton man convicted of battery for beating woman with brick

An Alorton man has been convicted of aggravated battery for beating a woman on a public street in East St. Louis.

Nathaniel Hawkins, 44, was convicted Monday in St. Clair County of kicking and beating an East St. Louis woman with a cement brick.

Hawkins was convicted of three counts of aggravated battery in a public place.

Hawkins beat Linda Rankin in the intersection of Market Avenue and 31st Street, a public way, in East St. Louis,

“He struck her about the body with a cement brick more than once and hit Rankin with his hands,” the charges stated.

The East St. Louis Police Department investigated the case. Assistant St. Clair County State’s Attorney Jason Emmanuel prosecuted the case.
