U.S. Rep. Shimkus receives NRA endorsement
The National Rifle Association has endorsed U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, in his re-election bid this year.
Shimkus is in a primary race against state Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, for the Republican nomination in the 15th congressional district.
The primary election is on March 15.
In its endorsement letter, the NRA noted Shimkus cosponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015, voted for the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, and opposed gun-control actions by President Barack Obama and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“I am proud to be the only candidate in this primary to be endorsed by the National Rifle Association,” Shimkus said. “I appreciate the recognition, as I have always been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and its protections of an individual’s right to carry.”
