Wintry forecast: Snow, much colder temperatures

Dropping temperatures and a chance of snow are in the forecast for Monday in the metro-east.

The high will reach only 34 and the mercury will fall throughout the day, dipping to 28 by 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Winds will gust at up to 34 mph throughout the day to make it seem even colder.

The chance of snow is 60 percent with a total of about half an inch expected to accumulate.

Monday night, the low will drop to about 19 with a 30 percent chance of snow. Winds will blow at up to 32 mph.

The high will reach only 27 Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. That's 15 degrees cooler than the average high of 42 for this time of year in the St, Louis metropolitan area. Winds will gust at up to 29 mph.

Tuesday night, the low will plummet to 12 under partly cloudy skies. Winds will blow at up to 29 mph.

It will be mostly sunny Wednesday with a high of 23 and wind gusts up to 26 mph.

Wednesday night, the low will drop to 13 and skies will be partly cloudy.
