Zapata’s closes Swansea restaurant, begins relocation

You’ll barely notice it’s gone.

Zapata’s Mexican Restaurant announced in December it would move from its Swansea site at 2615 N. Illinois St. to a new locale in Fairview Heights, and management there confirmed Monday the popular eatery closed the doors to the Swansea site Sunday.

Manager Courtney Zapata said work has been underway at the new site, located at 4660 N. Illinois St., for a couple months. She said the restaurant will reopen Wednesday.

The Fairview Heights locale, situated at Winchester Plaza, once housed The Pasta House Co.

So far, it’s not clear if a new tenant for the restaurant’s former Swansea site has been lined up.
