Intersection near Highland Elementary School reopens

A traffic accident closed an area around Highland Elementary School for most of the day Tuesday.

The driver of a car lost control and struck a utility pole on Poplar near 19th Street about 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, said Highland Police Sgt. Gary Sellers.

The utility pole was severed, Sellers said. Workers barricaded the area beginning around 7 a.m. to keep drivers and pedestrians from the area while the pole was being replaced. The repair work was finished by late Tuesday afternoon.

Police were not releasing name of the driver. The driver was injured in the crash.
