Police are still investigating a single-vehicle crash that led to a power outage in town on Sunday.

Stanley Donald, Freeburg police chief, said investigators were still determining who was driving the vehicle, but suspect alcohol may have been involved.

The red pickup truck was going east on Apple Street at an extremely high rate of speed, when it went off the road, hit a ditch, went airborne and hit a utility pole, Donald said.

Donald said there are witnesses who said the driver of the vehicle fled from the pickup truck.

Whoever was driving faces a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Power was knocked out in a vast majority of Freeburg, as well as part of Millstadt and Smithton, Donald said.

Electricity didn’t come back on for two or three hours in some areas, he added.
