Dog dies in house fire near Caseyville

Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire at 20 N. Oakland Drive, near the old Hollywood Heights grade school, late Wednesday morning, but it was too late.

Hollywood Heights Fire Chief Buddy Moore said no one was home at the time of the fire, but the resident’s dog was inside, was rescued but was not saved.

Caseyville, Hollywood Heights and State Park firefighters were at the house fire, with other firefighters on standby.

Moore said they were not yet able to get inside to determine the cause, but that the house was likely a total loss.
