Don’t Miss This: Fairview Heights incident leads to standoff

▪ Two people were taken into custody Tuesday after an altercation near the Fairview Heights MetroLink Station.

According to police, the incident was a case of domestic disturbance. A woman and a man “chased each other” from East St. Louis to the train station where the man allegedly emerged from his vehicle and began to smash the windows out of the woman’s car with a hammer.

When police arrived, an stand-off that lasted more than 40 minutes began as he refused to get out of his vehicle.

▪ O’Fallon police are looking for a man who robbed a fast food restaurant at gunpoint Monday morning.

The crime happened at the Hardee’s location at 110 E. Highway 50 at about 6 a.m.

Investigators are hopeful that someone will come forward with information about the suspect who they said has a distinctive mole on his face.

▪ Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has announced the elimination of two sports as it tries to slash its expenses.

The school, which like other state universities is struggling amid the state’s budget crisis, announced it will eliminate tennis and golf programs to save about $200,000.
