Fires damage Fairview Heights home, Collinsville apartment building
A pair of residential fires kept metro-east firefighters busy Tuesday night.
▪ A house at 549 St. Clair Rd. in Fairview Heights caught fire at about 10 p.m. and was seriously damaged.
A second alarm was called after first responders were unable to quickly get the blaze under control.
According to fire department reports, the family that lives in the house was not at home at the time the fire started. Social media reports indicated they were out of town on vacation.
▪ An apartment building fire at 704 W. Main St. in Collinsville attracted firefighters from that city, Edwardsville and Glen Carbon.
It started at about 8:20 p.m.
According to fire department reports, a police officer rescued at least one person from the flames.
No information was immediately available about the cause of the fires.
