IDOT to carry out work along Illinois 157 in Hamel, Edwardsville

The Illinois Department of Transportation plans to have lane closures in both directions on Illinois 157 from Illinois 140 in Hamel to 0.12 miles north of the Illinois 143/157 east junction in Edwardsville for a resurfacing project.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, weather permitting. IDOT plans to reduce traffic to one lane during work hours.

The lane closures are necessary to complete the resurfacing of the existing pavement, IDOT said. The project is scheduled to run through Oct. 15.

IDOT said it is asking motorists be patient, reduce speed and use extreme caution when traveling near and throughout the work zone. Motorists also should allow for extra time when traveling through the work area and watch for stopped traffic.

Additional signs, traffic-control devices and flaggers will be provided to assist motorists through the work zones, IDOT said.
