Men from Troy, O’Fallon killed in separate motorcycle crashes
Two people were killed in separate motorcycle crashes in the metro-east Friday morning, a 36-year-old man from Troy and a 23-year-old man from O’Fallon.
The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office identified Luis Cruz, 36, of Troy as the fatal victim in a crash that occurred on the southbound I-55/70 ramp to southbound Illinois 3 in East St. Louis.
Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye Jr. said a 911 caller reported seeing a wrecked motorcycle and a body in the roadway at 3:27 a.m. Friday.
The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in that crash, Dye said. Accident reconstruction investigators arrived shortly after 6 a.m. and kept the ramp closed for an hour and a half.
In a separate motorcycle crash Friday morning, Douglas J. Landers, 23, of O’Fallon died, according to the coroner’s office.
The crash occurred Friday morning on Illinois 161 at Shiloh Station Road east of Belleville. Dye said an eastbound Nissan Armada began a left turn onto Shiloh Station Road, taking it into the path of a westbound motorcycle. The vehicles collided head-on.
