UPDATE: Fairview Heights Best Buy reopens after fire

Shoppers can get back to their business at the Fairview Heights Best Buy store after it was temporarily evacuated due to a fire.

According to the Fairview Fire Department, the fire started in a trash compactor inside the building, which is located at 26 Plaza Drive in the Marketplace shopping center south of Interstate 64 and west of Illinois 159.

The store was evacuated after the fire was reported around 1 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., a large fan could be seen blowing smoke out of the building.

The store was back open by 3 p.m., a store employee confirmed.
