Wind, cool and rain likely Thursday; freeze warning Friday night

Brisk weather is in the forecast for Thursday across the metro-east.

There is a 20 percent chance of showers early in the day which will increase to a 60 percent chance of showers with the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature will be 58, about three degrees cooler than the average high temperature of 61 for this time of year in the St. Louis metropolitan area. But it will seem cooler with winds gusting up to 36 mph.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain early in the evening. But skies will gradually become mostly cloudy and the rain will taper off. The low will drop to 39.

The cooling trend will continue Friday when the high will reach only 56. Winds will gust at up to 34 mph under sunny skies.

It will become mostly cloudy Friday evening with gusts of up to 25 mph. A freeze warning is in effect for late Friday night when the low will plunge to 30.

Skies will be sunny with a high of 51 Saturday. Don’t put off outdoor plans until later in the weekend, though, because rain is increasingly likely Saturday night into Sunday.

There is a 20 percent chance of showers Saturday night, when the low will be 40.

It will be warmer Sunday with a high of 65. But the chance of rain is pegged at 50 percent.

The chance of rain increases to 60 percent Sunday night, when the low will be 55.
