Pedestrian hit by car on North Belt East in Belleville, airlifted to St. Louis hospital

A man was flown to a St. Louis hospital early Friday after he was struck by a car on North Belt East in Belleville.

He was hit just after midnight and the Belleville Fire Department rushed to the scene.

According to reports of first responders at the scene, the man appeared to be unconscious when firefighters arrived. He was a resident of the nearby Shadow Ridge Court apartment complex and was, apparently, trying to cross North Belt East when he was struck.

The man, who according to emergency radio traffic suffered multiple injuries, was taken to Memorial Hospital. He was transferred by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Additional information about how the incident happened or the condition of the victim was not available Friday.
