Don’t Miss This: Millstadt woman tries to help others with grieving process

▪ A Millstadt woman has penned a book describing how she survived the grief of losing her husband and two sons in a 2013 hiking accident.

Sarah Hartrum-Decareaux wrote a book called “From Here to Heaven” to explain her experiences and what’s helped to get her through the dark times.

▪ Ths suspect in starting several arson fires in Marissa has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Brandon Murphree, 22, pleaded guilty to one of six suspicious fires that happened last year in the city, a blaze that destroyed a home at 301 S. Park St.

Five other fires happened at about the same time remain unsolved. Officials would not say if they believe Murphree set the other fires.

▪ Edwardsville District 7 leaders are looking at layoffs, budget cuts and cost increases because of a deficit of $4.5 million in its education fund.

The school system has been on the state’s financial watch list since 2009, surviving off cash reserves as property values and the revenue from property taxes have diminished in recent years.
