Mr. BBQ’s Rib Shack opens in Smithton

Let the smell of woodsmoke be your guide: Mr. BBQ’s Rib Shack opened in Smithton Thursday.

The shack is located at 106 N. Main St. behind the Schmitty’s Bar & Grill patio.

Owner Kiwan Guyton had his smoker going most of the day ahead of the Thursday afternoon opening.

The name should be familiar in the metro-east: Guyton’s been barbecuing for 26 years ever since he first started cooking in Belleville when he was 15. He also previously operated a barbecue shack in Cahokia and has catered and cooked at picnics all over the area.

Guyton said he likes his location in Smithton because it’s not too far from anywhere and is easy to find. Hours of operation are 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays.

In addition to being a reputable pit master, Guyton is a 20-year veteran police officer currently serving on the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
