That bright light streaking across the sky Friday night was a meteor
Did you see a strange ball of light streak across the sky Friday night?
It was probably a meteor.
People from the Chicago area to the metro-east reported seeing the ball flash across the sky about 10:15 p.m. Friday.
Meteorologist Chris Higgins of the Fox affiliate KTVI in St. Louis posted video of the meteor, captured from webcams in St. Louis County and at Eckert’s in Belleville.
There were reports of Friday’s meteor being seen in Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Tennessee.
Higgins reported that the Lyrid meteor shower is active each year in mid- to late-April. In 2016, the peak of this shower is expected on the morning of April 22, so there could be more shooting stars.
