Don’t Miss This: New sports digs for the Althoff Crusaders?
Don’t miss these top stories Tuesday on BND.com:
▪ Althoff Catholic High School has kicked off a capital campaign designed to add an athletic complex and a new math and science lab to its Belleville campus.
The sports facility would include a football stadium which would allow the school to host home games on campus for the first time in its history.
Althoff played its game at Township Stadium on the former campus of Belleville Township High School, which later became Belleville West. After Belleville West relocated to a new campus on Frank Scott Parkway, Althoff remained to play on the renovated field at what is now the Lindenwood-Belleville campus.
▪ An East St. Louis man has been charged with a felony after he allegedly filed a document to withdraw a candidate from a city election.
According to prosecutors, James O’Neal, 49, went to the St. Clair County Clerks office to file papers to pull Nathaniel McCloud’s name off the March 15 Democratic Primary ballot.
McCloud is O’Neal’s nephew. O’Neal ended up winning the race after his name was pulled in a lottery when he and his opponents tied in the number of votes they received.
▪ If you live in Belleville, your property taxes are going up.
Mayor Mark Eckert said the increase will amount to about $70 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.
Eckert said city leaders have cut the budget everywhere they could. So an increase was unavoidable.
