▪ Police are working in East St. Louis to stop a recent wave of violence.

▪ A confidential report about the security of two potential sites for a federal spy agency found an alternative in the metro-east to be far more secure than the location eventually selected in St. Louis.

A 182-acre site for proposed for the National Geospacial Intelligence Agency near Scott Air Force Base offers both a no-fly zone and adequate standoff distances required by federal criteria. The chosen site in St. Louis does not, according to the report.

▪ Robert Charles Howard goes out on top as he retires as conductor of the Belleville Philharmonic.

He’s retiring after 21 years with the baton. That’s the second-longest tenure of a conductor in the musical society, which was founded in 1866.
