▪ Residents of the Sugar Loaf area of Collinsville got a scare Wednesday when a huge police response arrived amid reports of a burglary in progress.
Officers with assault weapons surrounded a home in the 5500 block of Sugar Loaf Road and were involved in a three-hour standoff before making a tense entry to the house.
The situation turned out to be a false alarm and a tactical response team that burst into the residence at the center of the report turned out to be empty.
▪ A Scott Air Force Base airman has been convicted of sexual assault.
John D. Gonzales was sentenced to demotion from senior airman to airman basic, total forfeiture of pay, six years of confinement and a bad conduct discharge.
He was assigned to the 19th Air Support Operations Squad at Ft. Campbell, Ky. when he was origially arrested in 2013.
