Police: Trio attacks, robs men outside Aldi in Swansea

Swansea Police Department is asking the public for help Tuesday in identifying a trio of robbers who attacked two men outside Aldi.

Authorities responded at about 11:45 p.m. Monday to the parking lot of Aldi at 1708 N. Illinois St. The store was closed at the time, according to a press release.

Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said two males were assaulted and robbed, and at least one was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, including cuts and abrasions on the victim’s face. The press release does not indicate what the suspects took from the victims.

“The victims arranged a meeting with other individuals on the parking lot which resulted in this incident,” Johnson said. “The victim that was transported to the hospital was released (Tuesday) morning. Swansea detectives are asking for the public's help and to call us if you saw or know anything about this incident.”

Authorities described three suspects, two males and one female. One suspect is described as a Hispanic male approximately 5-feet-10-inches with a beard. The other male is described as a white man with a beard. The third suspect is described as a white female.

The suspects allegedly fled the area toward Illinois 161, driving a 2000’s model black Chevrolet with four doors.

State police crime scene and Abbott EMS also responded to the scene Monday night to assist.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Swansea Detective Dan Lipe at 618-233-8114.
