Belleville sexual assault victim attacked in garage
Belleville Police say a second suspect — a 14-year-old — has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at her Parkridge Drive home and the theft of her vehicle.
Police already had taken one juvenile into custody in connection with the attack, which happened Thursday.
Police said the second suspect was taken into custody early Saturday morning at his residence. He remained in custody later Saturday at the Juvenile Detention Center.
Belleville Police, in a news release, said the second suspect “is also well-known to the Belleville Police.”
Police did not release the identities of the juveniles.
Detectives hope to present information to the St. Clair County State's Attorney’s office and seek charges on Monday.
The woman was ambushed in her garage late Thursday by a trio of men, one of them armed with a handgun.
The attack happened at about 9:50 p.m. as the woman arrived at her home in the first block of Parkridge Drive.
Two of the suspects stole the woman’s 2015 Mini Cooper while the third remained behind and sexually assaulted her, according to police reports.
At just before 1 a.m. Friday, police spotted the stolen car on 80th Street in East St. Louis and pursued the vehicle on State Street back into Belleville along West Main Street. The suspects jumped from the car at the dead-end of Ben Louis Drive. Police captured one of the suspects, a juvenile, while the other escaped on foot despite a massive search of the area that included the use of a tracking dog and a helicopter from the St. Louis County Police Department.
The third suspect, who ran from the victim’s residence after the sexual assault, has not been located.
