Potential for severe storms Tuesday: Hail, high winds, chance of tornadoes

Thunderstorms are likely Tuesday for the metro-east and there is a possibility they could become severe.

There is a 60 percent chance of wet weather with a high of 77, according to the National Weather Service. Storms could produce large hail and damaging winds and there is potential they they could produce an isolated tornado.

The chance of thunderstorms will decrease during the evening, falling to 20 percent late Tuesday. The overnight low will be 61.

There is a 30 percent chance of storms Wednesday, when the high temperature will shoot up to 88.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to move back into the area Wednesday night, when the low will be 63.

On Thursday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. After that, skies will become partly sunny with a high of 75.

It will be mostly clear Thursday night with a low of 53. Clouds, a slight chance of rain and highs in the low 70s or upper 60s are forecast for Friday and Saturday, the opening days of Art on the Square in downtown Belleville.
